Rally participants can live freely and safely for long periods in Malaysia, able to travel anywhere around the world from any of our marinas with ease and without worry about the security of their boats. Visiting Malaysia is hassle-free and ideal for a long-term stopover. Customs and immigration procedures in Malaysia are straightforward and not complicated. In addition, we will also arrange one-stop centre for customs and immigration clearance. For 2008 we are organizing two exciting rallies which allow you to discover Peninsula Malaysia! A brief desription is listed below. Sail Malaysia Passage to Langkawi (July to December)This is a continuation of the Sail Indonesia Rally, also previously known as the Darwin-Bali-Langkawi Yacht Rally. Working side by side with our collaborative partners in Sail Indonesia from Darwin (www.sailindonesia.net) and Yayasan Cinta Bahari Indonesia, the organizers of the Indonesian rally stops (www.sail-indonesia.com). Sail Malaysia is responsible for the Malaysian leg of the continuing rally. Sail Malaysia will also be present in Darwin during the dinner and the technical briefing to provide you with a complete rundown. Please email us if you with to obtain personal information about the events in Malaysia. In summary, the Passage to Langkawi Rally Schedule are as follows: Malaysia I. PUTERI HARBOUR, JOHOR : 15-17 NOVEMBER 2008 The start for the Malaysian leg begins with a welcoming ceremony on the 15th November in Malaysia’s newest marina. The Puteri Harbour is a signature development to the ambitious Malaysian Southern Corridor project. The marina is expected to complete in June 2008 and is the curtain raiser for the Malaysian series of events. A technical briefing on the Passage to Langkawi will also be held at the marina on 16th November 2008 at 3 pm. II. ADMIRAL MARINA, PORT DICKSON 28-30 NOVEMBER 2008 (02 Deg 28.8’ N, 101 Deg, 50.4’ E) The is a firm and much anticipated fixture in our rally calendar. Billed as an official state event, participants are treated ‘royally’ by their hosts, the Negeri Sembilan State Government. Participants who plan to fly back to their respective countries for Christmas will be looking to Admiral Marina as the ideal stopover, being only 1 hour from KLIA. III. LUMUT, PERAK 4-6 DECEMBER 2008 (04 Deg 14’ N, 100 Deg 38’ E) The Lumut/Pangkor waters is one of the best sailing destinations south of Penang and is practically unknown. The event is also billed as an Official State Event and hosted by the Perak State Government. IV. TANJONG CITY MARINA, PENANG 15-18 DECEMBER 2008 (05 Deg 24.9’ N, 100 Deg 20.7’ E) The marina is the only inner-city marina in Malaysia. Participants are able to enjoy a diverse range of culture and heritage within minutes of walking distance from their boats. With the support of our hosts, Penang Port Sdn. Bhd., rally boats will also be able to take part in the annual Passing Under the Penang Bridge, the only such convoy in this unique 3,000 nautical mile rally. V. LANGKAWI, KEDAH 26-30 DECEMBER 2008 (06 Deg 21’N, 99 Deg, 40’E) Langkawi is the final destination and most idyllic for cruising yachts with 3 major marinas and a host of choice anchorage spots. Together with our host, Langkawi Development Authority, we plan to arrange a reunion dinner for rally participants, past and present. Look out for further updates in this website on this dinner. 2. Sail Malaysia Passage to the East (June to July)This is an inaugural event which takes you from the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia to some of the lesser known spots on the east coast. The rally schedule are as follows: A. TANJONG CITY MARINA, PENANG 25-26 MAY 2008 (05 Deg 24.9’ N, 100 Deg 20.7’ E) The marina will be the starting point for rally participants to travel as a convoy before heading southwards. B. ADMIRAL MARINA, PORT DICKSON 1-2 JUNE 2008 (02 Deg 28.8’ N, 101 Deg, 50.4’ E) The marina will again play host to Sail Malaysia rally and gives all participants a chance to regroup and enjoy Negeri Sembilan’s hospitality before heading to the east coast. For those stopping in Port Dickson, we will be hold a technical briefing at the marina on 2 June 2008 at 5 pm. C. SEBANA COVE MARINA, JOHOR 7-9 JUNE 2008 (01 Deg 23.9’ N, 104 Deg, 06.3’ E) This is the first official rally stop in the eastern side of the Peninsula. The marina is approximately 10 km from the river mouth and is ideal for a long-term stopover. We suggest everyone meet here at the reception on 7 June 2008 and a technical briefing will be held on 8 June 2008 at the marina D. TIOMAN ISLAND, PAHANG 13-15 JUNE 2008 (02 Deg 48’ N, 104 Deg, 13’ E) The east coast of Malaysia is full of long sandy beaches and smaller islands known for dive sites. Complete with its own marina and airport, Pulau Tioman is one of the choice destinations among the east coast islands. IV. KUANTAN, PAHANG 17-19 JUNE 2008 (03 Deg 48’ N, 103 Deg, 22’ E) Kuantan is the capital city of Pahang is ideal stopover for supplies and to see the country. Pahang Tourism will be hosting us at the anchorage spot at Teluk Cempedak. V. KUALA TERENGGANU, TERENGGANU 25-27 JUNE 2008 (05 Deg 20’ N, 103 Deg, 8’ E) Kuala Terengganu is a beautiful capital city that sits on the northeast of Malaysia. It is also home of the Monsoon Cup and its nearby islands are some of the best diving locations in the world. VI. KUCHING, SARAWAK 10-13 JULY 2008 Kuching is the capital of the largest state in Malaysia (Sarawak) and is the first of many interesting discoveries those sailing in northern Borneo. The rally will also coincide with the world renowned Rainforest World Music Festival (11-13 July) and the Rainforest World Crafts Bazaar. VII. MIRI, SARAWAK 30 JULY - 2 AUG Our final stop for this year's rally, Miri, is the 2nd largest city in the state and the gateway to adventurous northeastern Sarawak. Being a major oil town of Malaysia, Miri also has a big expatriate population. Since this is the first time we are running the Passage to the East, we are still finalizing much of the details of the events at these stops.
